Save the Date!

So, during the week after the proposal we discussed whether or not we were gong to get married in October 2010 or October 2011, as we had decided we'd like to get married in October as it is special to us already because of our anniversary and a summer wedding was not important to either of us.

Once we had decided to get married in October 2010, we had picked Sunday October 10. When it turned out that weekend was not avaiable for the Best Man we then proceeded to choose October 2nd instead. We figured the earlier in the month the better for ensuring good weather. Then we found out that Jay's brother's baby was due that day, without a doubt we were going to change the date again!

Fortunately, October has 5 weekends to choose from so we decided to wait and see what was available at the venue when we made our choice of venue.
Which brings us to the last weekend in February, 7 months till we are getting married and no venue yet! So we head down south, appointments booked and research in hand, to scope out the potential venues for our big day.

We ended up choosing the Best Western Mariposa Inn in Orillia and went with October 16, 2010 as that was the earliest of my 2 remaining weekends off and definitely did not want to have to worry about booking it off!

So, the date is set and 7 months to go and the planning can finally commence!

Engaged!

Woohoo! I got engaged! It has happened!

What a birthday surprise! I was not expecting it yet, let alone expecting it on my birthday.

The proposal itself was romantic, with a romantic speech and done on one knee. The proposal was followed by a flury of activity as I had calls to make! While still having to eat dinner and get ready for our guests that were coming over for my birthday!

We made the calls to our parents and siblings and told the story and as of yet had no answer to the popular question of "When's the wedding?"

Brazil Trip!

Yes, i know this trip was awhile ago... I not only forgot to post about the trip, I forgot that I had a blog! LOL!

Our trip to Brazil was an amazing, once in a lifetime experience! (as our hosts are now returning to Canada and won't be in Brazil anymore)

We flew from Toronto to Sau Paulo Brazil and started the first part of our trip. We arrived on Friday. While in Sau Paulo, we stayed in a hotel, Staybridge Suites and attended race weekend! For the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix! On Saturday, we went to qualifying and Sunday was Race Day! What an experience for 2 F1 Racing fans! We really hope to be able to go to another race someday...

On Monday, we flew from Sau Paulo to Belo Horizante and were met there by our friends (and hosts) Dawn Richardson and Ryan Peterson! Boy did we miss them! They left Canada in May 2008 and didn't see them until their visit in May 2009. It was nice to see them again. We spent the rest of our week visiting with them and being tourists! We went to a couple different outdoor markets, saw some magnificent waterfalls, seen some monkeys just hanging out in the park. We had beautiful weather, which was fortunate as we had arrived at the beginning of the rainy season.

We then flew back to Sau Paulo airport and then jumped back on a p[lane to Toronto and headed to Muskoka to pick Zoey up at her Nana's. Boy did I miss her while we were gone, especially as Jay's mom sent us pictures of Zoey.

Brazil Bound!

Well, it is less than 4 weeks till we leave and I can finally say "when we go to Brazil" instead of Jay's "IF we go to Brazil".

Therefore, i can finally blog about it. Yeah!

So yeah, i was writing my friend in Brazil and looked at the Calendar to see how long till I see her, and it came up as less than 4 weeks! That came out of nowhere!

It has been a long, stressful & arduous journey to get here... First, there was the whole Jay having a job uncertainty, if he got laid off we'd need every penny to live off!
Second, when are temporary Brazil living friends came for their visit in May, we learned that he was going to be relocated to a remote area in Brazil. They didn't know when it was going to happen, if their new place would have room for us and did we want to go out there...

So, we finally knew that Jay's job was safe (for the near future) but, if we no longer have free lodging, is the trip still viable? Our race tickets are non-refundable but to go just for the race weekend would be super expensive because flights to Brazil are super expensive! We even looked into resorts and stuff in Brazil but that would cost mucho money...

Alas! A 3rd quarter, out of left field Hail Mary play... Our friends from Brazil contact us about the possibility of free lodging in a friends home in their former neighborhood at exactly the time we will be there... Hurray! The trip is saved and restored to the original plan!

So, we are leaving Toronto Thursday October 15th and arrive in Sao Paulo Brazil Friday October 16 for... Race Weekend! Then on Monday the 19th we take an internal flight to Belo Horizonte and start the tourist part of our trip. Then we catch a flight again from BH to Sao Paulo and leave Sao Paulo for Toronto on Wednesday the 28th, arriving back in Toronto on the 29th.

My New Job!

Finally, I found a job!

I am now working for a small business called Bath Fitter as a receptionist. I also do general office duties. It is a temporary job for 1 year while the receptionist is on sick leave. I work full time until January and after that there is the possibility that I will go to part time if the receptionist comes back part time.

I work Mon-Fri, 9-5 and have statutory holidays off and am off at Christmas till new year's!

However, now that I'm back at work I have to leave my puppy...

House Update

So, we have not done any major renos/changes but there is always little things that need to be done. We put up nicer curtain rods in the bedroom, living room & dining room. As well, we added curtains to the dining room & living room. We changed all the exterior door handles, the lights on either side of the garage & new house numbers! :)

Our most recent update was the new light in our dining room! I am so happy with it. (Thanks to Sarah for selling it to us) :)
